#PHPNW09: Building an Anti-CMS

Last weekend I gave a presentation at the PHP North West Conference. The talk was titled “Building an Anti-CMS (and how it’s changed our web team)” and covered some of the changes to Edge Hill’s website over the last couple of years, taking a different approach to content management and the way that using the Symfony framework has assisted in this.

I’ve re-recorded a slidecast of the talk and uploaded to Slideshare so check it out there or below:

I’ll be writing more about the rest of the conference on the Edge Hill Web Services blog.

  • This is a really insightful presentation! I enjoyed watching it alot. Thanks again Michael!

  • Your anti-CMS but you use wordpress?

  • Hi Clint,

I’m in favour of using the right tool for the job and building a blog from scratch when good systems are already available is not a good use of my time.

  • I just had to say it, sorry. I totally understand the use of it. My time is better spent conceptualizing rather than coding from scratch. I just don’t like people who devote their time to one CMS. I have seen where people get so wrapped up in one CMS that it inhibits them from turning out quality websites.

Let me know more about what your doing. It’s nice to meet people with the same ideas.

Sorry for the more than late replay. I don’t post much.

  • Anti CMS?
hihihi, even i couldn’t understand what the meaning is, i still wanna say thanks for ur info ^^

  • I’m not so sure that i understand about CMS, but I think i enjoy your presentation, thanks :D

  • Hi Michael,
